At 42×42 mm, the VOXL 2 Mini drone autopilot from ModalAI achieves a 30% reduction in area compared to the VOXL 2 to enable even smaller drones. Despite being the size of an Oreo cookie and weighing just 11 g, the redesigned autopilot packs all of the autonomous AI and computing capabilities of its larger predecessor.
The VOXL 2 Mini is powered by the Qualcomm QRB5165 SoC with an 8-core CPU, Hexagon Tensor accelerator, GPU, DSP, and NPU. Its AI engine is capable of delivering 15 TOPS to run complex AI and deep learning workloads. The SoC also furnishes 8 GB of LPDDR5 memory and 128 GB of flash.
VOXL 2 Mini accepts four MIPI-CSI image sensor inputs, while preconfigured accessories provide WiFi, 4G/5G, and Microhard connectivity. The diminutive autopilot pairs with the VOXL ESC Mini, a 5.8-g 4-in-1 electronic speed controller with an integrated power management system and closed- or open-loop RPM control with feedback. Coupled with perception sensors, this computing-dense autonomous stack enables obstacle avoidance, obstacle detection, and GPS-denied navigation.
Supported by ModalAI’s VOXL SDK, the VOXL 2 Mini is a Blue UAS Framework autopilot with a 30.5×30.5-mm industry-standard frame mount. It is available for order, with prices starting at $1169.99.
