High-Speed Memory With 800 MBps Throughput

Infineon Technologies have launched Pseudo Static Random Access Memory (PSRAM) for Vehicle-to-Everything communication (V2X) applications.

The memory comes with high-speed CMOS technology, low power consumption, low pin count and self-refreshing DRAM.

Infineon Technologies AG and Autotalks have collaborated to offer cutting-edge solutions for advanced Vehicle-to-Everything communication (V2X) applications. Infineon has launched automotive-grade HYPERRAM 3.0, a Pseudo Static Random Access Memory (PSRAM), which the company claims to feature a high-speed Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (CMOS), self-refresh Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM), with HyperBus interface. According to the press release issued by the company, the PSRAM can achieve an enhanced throughput of 800 MBps through a 16-bit extended version of the HyperBus interface. The company says the new memory is ideal for buffering data, storing audio, images, and video, or as a scratchpad for math and data-intensive operations.

According to the company’s claim, the memory internally handles the necessary refresh operations on the DRAM array to ensure data integrity. This means that when the master or the host does not actively access the memory, the refresh operations are managed internally without requiring any intervention from the host. As a result, the DRAM array appears to the host as static cells that can retain data without needing refresh. The company claims that the PSRAM is characterized by low power consumption, high performance, and a low pin-count design. With a Small Form Factor and Fine-pitch Ball Grid Array (FBGA) package, these PSRAMs claim to occupy minimum space on the Printed Circuit Board (PCB), allowing for compact designs.

“With the global V2X market expected to grow at a CAGR over 30 percent in the next five years, this collaboration with Autotalks comes at an ideal time,” said Patrick Le Bihan, Senior Director of Ecosystem Marketing at Infineon. “Our HYPERRAM and NOR Flash memories work seamlessly with Autotalks’ SoCs to deliver a low-cost, high-performance solution to customers in an energy-efficient manner. We are excited to team with a leading provider of V2X devices and look forward to an ongoing collaboration with Autotalks.”
