Based on NXP’s i.MX 93 processor, the VAR-SOM-MX93 system-on-module (SoM) from Variscite offers machine learning acceleration for edge computing. The i.MX 93 applications processor integrates a scalable Arm Cortex-A55 core and Arm Ethos-U65 micro neural processing unit (NPU), allowing developers to create capable and energy-efficient machine learning (ML) applications.
The 1.7-GHz dual-core Cortex-A55 processor and 250-MHz Cortex-M33 real-time coprocessor join the 0.5-TOPS NPU to optimize both performance and power efficiency of industrial, IoT, and automotive devices. A rich set of peripheral and connectivity options includes two CAN-FD interfaces, two Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, two USB ports, audio I/O, camera inputs, ADC, and display outputs.
Add-on modules can be used to configure the VAR-SOM-MX93 for dual-band or single-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth communication. Both add-ons realize the necessary PHY/MAC layers to support WLAN applications in conjunction with a host processor over a SDIO interface. The modules also provide a Bluetooth/BLE platform through the HCI transport layer. Both WLAN and Bluetooth share the same antenna port.
The VAR-SOM-MX93 is compatible with the company’s Pin2Pin SoM family, extending scalability options from entry level to high performance. Evaluation kits for the VAR-SOM-MX93 include the SoM, a carrier board, and optional LVDS display with touch panel.
The VAR-SOM-MX93 SoM is currently available for ordering and is covered by Variscite’s 15-year longevity plan.
