Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Satellite brings satellite-based two-way messaging to next-generation Android premium smartphones. Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X70 modem and supported by the fully operational Iridium satellite network, Snapdragon Satellite will provide global connectivity using mobile messaging from around the world. The feature will be available on smartphones that incorporate the company’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform.
“Kicking off in premium smartphones later this year, this new addition to our Snapdragon platform strongly positions us to enable satellite communication capabilities and service offerings across multiple device categories,” said Durga Malladi, senior vice president and general manager, cellular modems and infrastructure, Qualcomm.
The company expects Snapdragon Satellite to expand to other products, including laptops, tablets, vehicles, and IoT devices. As the ecosystem grows, OEMs and app developers can differentiate their products and offer unique branded services that take advantage of satellite connectivity.
Emergency messaging on Snapdragon Satellite will be launched in select regions starting in the second half of 2023.
