- Gen 2 SCPS Sensor is a completely battery-free device, that collects multiple environmental data and transmits it wirelessly using Bluetooth.
SMK’s Gen 2 SCPS is a Bluetooth-based ambient sensor with energy harvesting capabilities. The Gen 2 SCPS Sensor can collect ambient information such as temperature, humidity, luminance, CO2, air pressure, accelerometer, and ambient sound. The energy harvesting capability of the Gen 2 SCPS sensor can allow for a battery-free operation of low-powered electronics. The energy harvesting capability and multi-sensing capability in a single package will enable the engineers to develop a lightweight, compact and no maintenance sensor node or other IoT device that can communicate using Bluetooth.
Energy harvesting sensors have the advantage of being self-sufficient and not requiring an external power source. This eliminates the need for batteries or external power supplies, which can save cost and maintenance, as well as increase the reliability and lifespan of the sensor. Additionally, energy harvesting sensors can be used in remote or inaccessible locations where power sources are not available.
The company claims that the Gen 2 SCPS Sensor is a completely battery-free device, collects ambient information such as temperature, humidity, luminance, CO 2, air pressure, accelerometer, and ambient sound. The sensor can also transmit the information via Bluetooth to an e-paper display with its own self-contained power source.
“With recent advancements in extremely low power micro-controllers, the time is right for utilization of SMK’s Energy Harvesting Technology,” said Paul Evans, President of SMK Electronics Corporation, USA. “Creating a new class of IoT and remote control devices, products utilizing SMK’s Energy Harvesting may either feature significantly extended battery life or bypass the use of batteries altogether.
